I spent the past few days at Bernstein conferences presenting a poster with my work on meta-learning three factor learning rules that make recurrent neural networks learn common neuroscience tasks.
But also imprtantly one of of my collaborators John Madrid-Carvajal presented also a poster on our work on how reward shapes population dynamics in mouse visual cortex. Fortunately he was responsible for preparing and presenting the poster (with me only providing a few new plots), because he did a much better job than I would have done. (Unfortunately I do not have any picture from any of the two presentations because I almost always forget to take any.)
We are both very grateful for the feedback we got for both works!
Also, for some reason, almost everyone who saw me on Thursday seemed surprised that I was still around (almost as if they had heard otherwise…).
Perhaps because I skipped the conference dinner, some people assumed I had already left. In reality, I simply had some work to get done. And, given the circumstances, spending an evening networking over an overpriced dinner, while apparently being the subject of unusual interest from representatives of a former employer didn’t strike me as an especially good investment of time.
But I was interested in Thursday’s talks, so leaving early was never really a consideration.

For anyone still interested into the logistics, I took my train back to Berlin after the conference, and indeed I had a flight booked from Berlin airport for the next day, on Friday at 2 p.m.. But I still had enough time to get back at a reasonable hour, prepare for my next trip, and leave again.
And since apparently my travel schedule deserves supporting documentation, Voilà
